Fiji and San Francisco

Bula!

After a hectic few months of travelling the time finally came to relax for a bit so we went to Fiji. We stayed at a nice place called the beach house and did almost nothing of interest for a week and it was lovely. I apologise if this makes for a poor blog entry but i wanted to make america as interesting as possible for you.

Te 2nd of march was the longest day of my life, literally! We spent the day by the beach in Fiji and went to the airport, then we set off at 10.15pm and landed in LA at 1.15pm on the same day! (Dateline crossings are weird) We flew to Los Angeles with no plans other than vague notion that we wanted to get to San Francisco as quickly as possible as LA is monstrously huge and once you go downtown it takes a couple of hours to get out again. After finding the United airline tickets were $370 we thought we were going to have to get the bus overnight but fortunately we found another airline which cost $120 so we flew and managed to get into the hostel we'd booked for the following 2 nights. Then we went out on a pub crawl and ended up in a club until the 3rd March, blimey.

Last night we went to a free show and saw Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys) at a very cool club. At one point he was mixing 'Smells like teen spirit' with 'Killing in the Name' San Fran has so many cool bars and clubs (and you know i'm not that bothered about clubbing) so we're probably going to stay another night or two.

We'd planned to go to Omaha to see our friend Nick from Uni but that's unfortunately fallen through so now we've got some spare days and no real idea what we want to do, Yosemite and Death Valley are possibilities though we'll probably hire a car and drive down the coast road to LA, if we can find a car cheap enough.

Pictures shall follow but this PC is locked in a box!

So what happened with your visit to see Nick? Or did you finally decide to take all the advice you've been given about there being nothing to do in Omaha!!

seriously ash mate don't do the coast road - it's the most tiring road in existence, nice view and all but winding in and out along a cliff face with a massive drop on one side is a bit knackering (esp. as the journey takes about a day since you're driving so slow).
good call on staying in San Fran instead of LA, and I hope you have fun in the ol' US of A.

Well we're still in San Francisco, did alcatraz yesterday. Did i mention that is's bloody freezing here, like 12c or something, and chicago/NY are about 2c, time to buy a coat!

We're going to see nick for one night so we don't have to change our actual flights, just the times on them. This gives us an extra few days in california but the cars are too expensive to hire (double the cost for under 25's) so we're probably going to stay here til at least the 8th and go to LA on the bus and stay there for 4 nights. That should put duff's mind at rest.

Hey, we're off to vegas on the 12th for 4 nights, one day of which will be a trip to the grand canyon and hoover dam.

Was that online poker or real poker? We ended up playing some small tourny's at the hostel in SF.

I can't see a link...

Just to continue the theme I guess I had a small poker night the other week - small because everyone dropped out at the last minute, but you'll be pleased to know I fleeced Simon Avenell out of a fiver!

I played shit when I was getting everyone up to speed for no money (I wish I could say this was intentional), but as soon as the money was laid down I was on fire. It may settle you to know that Tony didn't lose any money - and thus peace still reigns through the small town of Guildford.

I was asked to be a godfather yesterday! How cool is that? Now if I can only find that spare horses head....

Sorry this blog has been rather neglected recently, internet access has been scarce and expensive. I've uploaded a new set of photos on Flickr, a full write up will follow soon.

Tom and Steve,

I just read your reply to my 'boring' comment on dave's blog.

Nice retort, boys, you couldn't have hit me harder if you'd tried.

anyway, just 5 days left so the bitterness can stop soon.
